Anker C1000 is worth watching for the 1 kWh ice-storm story, but Ships-from-Amazon was not printed on the verified buy box — not a primary money CTA. Champion dual-fuel and merchant-fulfilled BLUETTI/EcoFlow 1 kWh units are not money CTAs. Badges change.
Honest Canada notes (up front)
Carbon monoxide. Portable generators are outdoor only — never indoors, never in an attached garage with the door down, never on a condo balcony. A CO alarm is not optional.
Fuel storage. Gasoline goes stale; propane cylinders are more stable but need safe outdoor storage and local rules. Dual-fuel helps when pumps are closed after a storm.
Condo / balcony limits. Many buildings ban fuel generators on balconies. Power stations are often the only realistic option for apartments — and a ~300Wh brick is phones/router/lights, not a fridge all night.
Winter & quiet hours. Cold starts and cold batteries matter; neighbours and bylaws care about night-time noise. Size for fridge + modem + lights first — not a whole-home Generac install.
