FAQ
How long should I be ready for a power outage in Ontario?
Plan to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours. Rural areas and big ice storms can mean longer outages, so extra water, food and fuel are worth having.
How much water should I store for an outage?
At least 2 litres of drinking water per person per day for 3 days, plus extra for cooking and washing. Homes on a well may have no water at all when the power is out.
How long does food last in the fridge without power?
An unopened fridge keeps food cold for about 4 hours. A full freezer stays frozen for about 48 hours, or about 24 hours if half full. When in doubt, throw it out.
